The Right Size to Start With

The 30ml bottle is designed for researchers who are trying methylene blue for the first time. It provides approximately one month of daily use at a consistent starting dose, giving you enough time to observe how your body responds before deciding whether to continue with the larger 120ml supply.

The product inside is identical to our 120ml bottle. Same USP-grade compound, same formulation, same batch-specific third-party testing. The only difference is the volume.

What Is In the Bottle

Heisen Blue 1% Methylene Blue Solution contains USP-grade methylene blue dissolved in distilled water. Nothing else. No fillers, no stabilizers, no undisclosed additives. The 1% concentration means each mL of solution contains approximately 10 mg of methylene blue, and each drop delivers approximately 0.5 mg.

Why Grade Matters

Not all methylene blue sold online is pharmaceutical grade. Industrial and technical grade methylene blue is produced for dyeing and chemical processing applications and is not manufactured to pharmaceutical purity standards. It may contain heavy metals or residual solvents at levels not appropriate for research use.

Heisen Blue uses USP-grade methylene blue powder sourced from established pharmaceutical manufacturers. USP-grade means the compound has been manufactured to the purity and identity standards set by the United States Pharmacopeia. the same standard used in clinical research and pharmaceutical compounding.

  • Identity confirmation: USP Methylene Blue reference method, result: Confirmed
  • Potency and assay: confirms the labeled concentration is within USP tolerance limits
  • Heavy metals: mercury, lead, arsenic and cadmium tested via FDA-EAM 4.7 ICP-MS method, all results well below USP <232> limits
  • Aerobic plate count: total microbial load, result: less than 10 CFU/mL
  • Microbial pathogens: E. coli, Salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus, all absent
  • Yeast and mold: both less than 10 CFU/mL
  • Residual solvents: over 20 individual solvents tested via USP <467> GC/MS, all Not Detected

About Our Sourcing

Our USP-grade methylene blue powder is sourced from a US distributor whose suppliers are established pharmaceutical manufacturers in India. All solutions are mixed and bottled in Canada.

No facilities in North America actually manufacture USP-grade methylene blue powder from scratch. Companies claiming "made in USA" or "made in Canada" are typically mixing overseas pharmaceutical powder into solutions domestically, which is exactly what we do, openly and transparently. What distinguishes responsible suppliers is the grade of powder used and the rigor of independent testing applied to the finished product.

Is the 30ml or 120ml Right for Me?

The 30ml is the right choice if you are trying methylene blue for the first time and want to start with a smaller commitment. At approximately 1 month of supply it gives you a full window to assess how the product works for your research before moving to the larger size.

The 120ml is the better value if you already know methylene blue is part of your research protocol. At approximately 6 months of supply it costs significantly less per mL and reduces how often you need to reorder.

Both bottles contain the exact same USP-grade product.

Safety Information

Do not use if you are:

  • Taking SSRIs, SNRIs or MAO inhibitors. Risk of serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition
  • Taking any other serotonin-affecting substances including tramadol, triptans, dextromethorphan or St. John's Wort
  • Diagnosed with G6PD deficiency
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Taking any prescription medication that affect serotonin. Consult your doctor before use.

Methylene blue is not approved by Health Canada or the FDA for personal consumption. This applies to all methylene blue products sold in Canada, not just Heisen Blue. Our methylene blue is sold strictly for research purposes only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Methylene Blue has been safely used in clinical settings for many years. Human studies have shown that it is well tolerated when taken in appropriate amounts. Doses used in studies are typically below 2 milligrams per kilogram of body weight, which is about 140 milligrams for a person who weighs 70 kilograms (approximately 154 pounds). However, many people find methylene blue to be effective at 5-20mg per day.

Recent clinical trials have shown promising results, including noticeable improvements in cognitive performance and a reduction in brain volume loss. No negative side effects were reported.

Trace amounts of heavy metals can be found in nearly all substances, including pharmaceutical ingredients, supplements, food, water and even natural products like soil and spices. This is because heavy metals such as lead, arsenic, mercury, and cadmium are naturally occurring elements found in the earth’s crust and are nearly impossible to eliminate entirely from the environment.

Methylene Blue, like most pharmaceutical compounds, may contain extremely small traces of these elements. However, these amounts are carefully regulated. The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and other international safety standards set strict daily exposure limits for heavy metals to ensure public safety. For example, the allowable daily intake for lead is 5 micrograms, and for cadmium it is 4.1 micrograms, according to USP <232> and ICH Q3D guidelines.

Each batch of our Methylene Blue is independently tested by a third-party laboratory to confirm that the levels of any detectable heavy metals are well below these accepted safety thresholds.

Some brands may claim their product is “heavy metal free,” but this can be misleading. What they often mean is that their lab results show “non-detectable” levels based on the detection limits of their test which is not the same as truly zero. For example, a result of 0.004 mg may be rounded down to 0 mg on a report, but it does not mean the substance is entirely free of that element. We provide full lab results showing actual detection values.

A common and well-supported approach to using Methylene Blue is to begin with a low amount and slowly increase, depending on how your body responds.

For our 1% solution, start with 8 to 12 drops on the first day.

For our 2% solution, begin with 4 to 6 drops.

This delivers approximately 4-6 milligrams of Methylene Blue, which allows you to observe how your body reacts.

You can gradually increase to 10 drops for 1% or 5 drops for 2%, which provides around 5 milligrams. From there, continue increasing only as needed based on how you feel. Many people find an effective dose to be around 5-20mg per day.

Many people choose to take two rest days per week, allowing the body a short break.

Everyone’s ideal dosage is different, so it’s important to start low, listen to your body, and make adjustments gradually. If you experience any discomfort, reduce the amount until you find what feels right for you.

For a complete breakdown of how to measure doses across 1% and 2% concentrations see our Methylene Blue Dosage Guide.

Yes, it’s very likely that your urine will turn blue or blue-green after taking Methylene Blue. This is completely normal and expected. The compound is excreted through the kidneys, and its strong pigmentation gives urine a noticeable tint, even at low doses.

The color change is harmless and simply a sign that your body is metabolizing and eliminating the compound. In fact, this visible effect is one of the reasons it has been historically used in medical diagnostics.

We source our USP-grade methylene blue powder through a US distributor whose suppliers are established pharmaceutical manufacturers in India. India produces pharmaceutical ingredients for some of the world's largest drug companies and our powder meets the same USP grade standards. Every batch is then mixed bottled here in Canada and then independently third party tested at an accredited lab in the US.

No facilities in the USA or Canada actually manufacture USP-grade methylene blue powder. There are some pharmaceutical companies or chemical wholesalers that have methylene blue in their catalogue, but they are contracting overseas factories to make it. Companies claiming "Made in USA/Canada" are usually just mixing overseas powder into solutions domestically which is exactly what we do as well in Canada.

Every batch of Heisen Blue undergoes independent third-party lab testing at BeaconPoint Labs, a US accredited laboratory. We test the finished bottled solution, not just the raw powder, covering over 30 quality checks including heavy metals screening for lead, arsenic, mercury and cadmium.

Our Certificates of Analysis are available for every batch and you are welcome to contact BeaconPoint Labs directly to verify any test results independently. We have nothing to hide and encourage you to do your own due diligence.

Only if it is USP-grade and independently verified. Many suppliers sell industrial grade methylene blue which has no standardized purity requirements and may contain contaminants. Heisen Blue is USP-grade and tested at BeaconPoint Labs, a US accredited laboratory, with over 30 quality checks per batch including heavy metals screening. We also test the finished bottled solution not just the raw powder.
