5 WAYS TO SPOT FAKES BEFORE YOU BUY
IS YOUR METHYLENE BLUE PUTTING YOU AT RISK?
Methylene blue has been around for more than a century, but now that it’s gaining popularity as a supplement, the internet is flooded with bottles that look the same but aren’t. Many are industrial-grade dyes or diluted imports being passed off as pure.
If you’re using methylene blue, you deserve to know it’s safe and authentic.
Keep reading to learn about the five golden rules to protect yourself before you buy.

1. THE GOLDEN RULE: A FULL COA, TESTED ON THE FINAL SOLUTION
The only real proof of purity is a Certificate of Analysis (COA) from a reputable, third-party lab. Don’t settle for vague “tested” claims or partial results.
A proper COA should show:
Identity — confirmation it’s actually methylene blue.
Purity — that the final solution is at the labeled strength (for example, a true 1% solution, not something weaker or inconsistent).
Heavy metals testing — lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium.
Microbiology — to rule out harmful bacteria or contamination.
Residual solvents — leftover chemicals from the manufacturing process, which can be harmful if not removed.
And here’s the critical part: testing must be done on the final mixed product in the bottle, not just the raw powder. A clean powder doesn’t guarantee a clean or accurate solution once it’s been dissolved, bottled and shipped.
But here’s the challenge: COAs can be confusing if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Most people see rows of numbers and lab jargon and don’t know if it means safe or unsafe. That’s why we created a simple step-by-step COA Interpretation Guide so you’ll know exactly how to read a report and spot red flags.
It doesn’t really matter where your methylene blue comes from nearly as much as whether the finished solution has been properly tested at a trustworthy lab.

2. THE SIMPLE LYE + GLUCOSE TEST
Methylene blue has unique chemical properties that make it easy to test at home. One of the simplest ways is the redox test using lye (sodium hydroxide) and glucose:
- Add a small amount of methylene blue solution into a clear glass container.
- Mix in a pinch of glucose (sugar) and a few drops of lye solution.
- Shake gently and watch the reaction.
What should happen?
- The solution will turn from blue to clear (colorless) as the methylene blue is reduced.
- When left still, oxygen from the air will slowly turn it blue again.
- Re-shake and the cycle repeats.
This back-and-forth color change is a simple way to confirm you’re dealing with real methylene blue and not a counterfeit dye.

Doctor Consultation3. CHECK REVIEWS ON TRUSTWORTHY PLATFORMS
Don’t just trust testimonials pasted on a seller’s website. Look for verified reviews on Amazon, TrustPilot and Google. Reputable companies encourage open feedback because they have nothing to hide. A company or seller with no third-party reviews is a red flag.

4. WATCH FOR WEBSITE RED FLAGS
If the brand’s website looks thrown together, if product claims don’t match up or if they avoid sharing details about sourcing and testing, be cautious. Transparency is the foundation of trust.
5. A BOLD SATISFACTION GUARANTEE
Finally, a confident company will stand behind their product. Look for a clear, no-questions-asked satisfaction guarantee. If they don’t offer one, ask yourself: why not?
